Introduction

Hello there friend, I’m sure that you clicked on this article because you either want to save some money and you’ve come to the right place.  My website was founded to show people how to save money in all aspects of life and this is one of the biggest arena.   Fact is that the average cable bill runs around 120 dollars a month which adds up to $1440.00 dollars which is a significant dent in your wallet or purse and with the recession right around the corner, its important to start cutting and strutting on your finances.   Of course, you don’t have to ask me what I spend because as the article says, I don’t spend a dime and in this article you’ll see how I do it and I will show you how to do the same.  Please read this guide through its entirety as there is a lot of information to go over.  So hang on!!!

Before We Begin, Let Go Over What NOT TO DO!!!!!

The first thing I need to do is to advise you on items you should never do and this is important because there are a lot of guides on the internet that provide advice that can get you into a lot of hot water in so many ways.  For obvious starters, do not go and try to steal cable hooking up to another person’s service or use illegal cable or dish equipment.  This also includes sharing Netflix or other streaming channels passwords.  It is a criminal offense and even if you don’t go to jail, you can expect major civil fines or even a lawsuit by those respected companies.   Number 2, don’t go out and purchase one of those hacked TV android boxes that are sold online or at flea markets.   They will usually get cut off in a manner of months but usually they have spyware on them that will steal your personal information.   So avoid everything I mentioned in this section.   Now we are going to begin with the equipment I actually recommend getting that will get you on the right path of eliminating that cable bill

TV Antenna

Well naturally I’m going to begin with telling you to get a TV antenna and its one of the easiest things you can do but I’m going to go over the reasons why that most people don’t know, you see most cable bills charge you extra for local channels that are freely broadcast over the air.   Honestly, I’ve always felt that there was no reason to pay for something that your local networks will send you free however most cable and dish subscribers convince their customers to buy from them by telling you that you’ll get a weak signal and that you’ll have to twist and turn those rabbit ears just to even get a signal.  Well, that may have been many years ago where I was doing that on my old black & white TV although I just wrapped some aluminum foil around the tips to alleviate that problem.   But times have changed and so has the equipment and signals.  Fact is that most channels broadcast over the air are in HD and in fact are better than your cable channels because the signal is uncompressed.   Now, you can still get those antennas with those good old fashioned rabbit ears or you can get a Mohu Leaf which is my choice for getting my OTA channels.  I have mine on my window in the living room and it works just fine.   Once you’ve placed the Mohu Leaf where you want it, you then go to your TV setting and scan for channels…quite simple isn’t it.  Below is a picture of my Mohu Leaf in the window as I always practice what I preach.  I’m not going to tell you something that I don’t apply in my own life.

The channels I get are quite extensive.  I do get my local channels like NBC, CBS, and  PBS but what most people also do not know is that you can get a lot more channels.  With my antenna I also get  GRIT, Bounce, Ion Mystery, Home Shopping Network, Dabl, Heroes, Decades, Crime TV, etc.  In all I get over 40 channels, all digital.  Your results may vary however having an antenna along will certainly give you plenty to watch alone. Below Are Some Instructions On How To Get Things Set Up. If You Wish To Purchase The Mohu Antenna, you can get one from Amazon by clicking the picture below

How To PROPERLY Set Up Your Antenna

How do you use a TV antenna, and what do you need to get started????? Here’s a comprehensive guide to using a TV antenna to help you make the most of your viewing experience.

Before you start, it’s essential to make sure that you have a TV antenna compatible with your TV. There are different types of TV antennas available on the market, including indoor and outdoor antennas, and it’s essential to choose the right one based on your location, the strength of the signal, and the type of TV you have.

Once you have your TV antenna, the first thing you need to do is find the best location for it. The position of your antenna is crucial as it can affect the strength of the signal you receive. Ideally, you want to place your antenna as high as possible and in a location with a clear line of sight to the broadcast towers. If you’re using an indoor antenna, you can try placing it near a window or on a high shelf. For an outdoor antenna, you’ll need to mount it on a mast or the roof of your house.

Next, you’ll need to connect your TV antenna to your TV. Most TV antennas come with a coaxial cable, which you’ll need to plug into the “Antenna In” port on the back of your TV. If your TV doesn’t have an “Antenna In” port, you’ll need to use a digital converter box to connect your antenna to your TV.

Once you’ve connected your TV antenna to your TV, it’s time to scan for channels. You’ll need to do this every time you move your antenna or if you’ve purchased a new TV. To scan for channels, follow these steps:

  1. Press the “Menu” button on your TV remote.
  2. Navigate to the “Channel Scan” or “Channel Setup” option.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to scan for channels. This process may take a few minutes, and you’ll need to wait until it’s completed.

After the scan is complete, you should be able to access all the channels that are available in your area. If you’re not getting a strong signal or you’re having trouble finding some channels, you may need to reposition your antenna or use a signal amplifier to boost the signal strength.

What’s The Best Device To Access Streaming Services??

If you already have a Smart TV, then you can skip to the next paragraph. I don’t own a Smart TV. Its not because I’m not smart but simply because it was cheaper for me to buy a TV without one. I currently own a Hitachi 39 inch TV that I’ve owned for over 10 years. Its not 4k or 8k or 16k or 32k or any of that mess but it does the trick. But I needed to get something to access my streaming services. I got the Amazon Firestick and its worked out for me quite nicely.

The Amazon Firestick is a small device that plugs into the HDMI port of your TV, allowing you to access a range of streaming services, including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Hulu. Here are some benefits of using an Amazon Firestick:

  1. Cost savings: With the Firestick, you can access all of your favorite shows and movies without paying for a cable or satellite TV subscription. This can save you hundreds of dollars per year.
  2. Convenience: The Firestick is portable and easy to use, so you can take it with you when you travel and use it on any TV with an HDMI port. This means you can watch your favorite shows and movies from anywhere.
  3. Wide range of content: The Firestick allows you to access a wide range of streaming services, giving you access to thousands of TV shows, movies, and other types of content.
  4. Easy to set up: Setting up the Firestick is quick and easy. Simply plug it into your TV and follow the prompts to set up your account and start streaming.
  5. Voice control: The Firestick comes with a voice-controlled remote, allowing you to search for content and control your TV with just your voice. This is especially convenient for people who have difficulty using traditional remote controls.

Overall, the Amazon Firestick is a convenient and cost-effective way to access a wide range of streaming content. Whether you’re looking to cut the cord and save money or just want an easy way to access your favorite shows and movies, the Firestick is a great choice. Oh Yea…Forgot About Getting Those Free Pay Per View Sports Events…

Well, with me being a tightwad, I’ll be damned if I’m going to spend 100 bucks just to go watch a Pay Per View events so here’s how I get things done. My method to isn’t exactly rocket science just to let you know which is why I left discussing this for last but all you need to do is hop into your car, truck, bicycle or motorcycle. If you don’t have any of those then you can catch a bus…(Make Sure You Have Enough Change) and go to your nearest sports bar. That’s it. Now you do have to pay for a meal but that’s fine….you gotta eat after all and this also saves you from having to get it delivered so you get your food hot and ready. I hate getting food delivery….my stuff always shows up cold. If you don’t feel like driving then I don’t know what else to tell you other than watch a few episodes of Law & Order SVU or Gunsmoke. Anyway, its works and that’s all that matters.

Time To Wrap Things Up

In conclusion, ditching cable and using a TV antenna and streaming services has many benefits. Firstly, it can save you a significant amount of money on your monthly TV bill. Secondly, it gives you greater control over the content you watch, as you can choose to subscribe to only the streaming services that interest you. Thirdly, it allows you to access a wider range of content, as many streaming services offer exclusive shows and movies that are not available on cable. Fourthly, it is more convenient, as you can watch your favorite shows and movies on a range of devices, including your TV, laptop, tablet, or phone.
